KAPAG NABUHAY ANG MGA PATAY

Magandang ulitin ang sitwasyon itinatong ng Saduceo kay Jesus. May isang babaeng nag-asawa, namatay ang kanyang asawa at muli niyang napangasawa ang susunod na kapatid na lalaki. Sa istoryang inilahad ay namatay lahat sila nang hindi siya nabibigyan ng anak. (Anong sumpa mayroon ang babaeng ito?) At sa bandang huli, namatay na rin ang babae (Siguro dapat na nga siyang mamatay…bago mamatay ang isang kung sino pa!)

Ang tanong: Sa muling pagkabuhay sino ang kikilalanin niayng asawa yamang napangasawa niya silang lahat?

1. Ang unang niyang asawa: dahil the original is still the best
2. Ang pangpito; dahil nagsumpaan silang “Hihintayin kita sa langit”
3. Lahat sila: isang mister kada araw
4. Wala

(Puwede itong itanong sa mga maninimba. At kapag sumagot na, the priest may ask ala-Christopher de Leon; Is that your final answer? You may use your lifeline)

Of course, Christ himself has given the answer to a question triggered by a Saduce’s desire to confront him on the issue of resurrection and they themselves could not believe how brilliant he was to be able to go deeper into their own inquiry.

We hold on to a very important promise: the resurrection of the dead. He proposes a very desirable end: ang mga babae’t lalaking karapat-dapat na muling buhayin para sa kablang buhay ay din a mag-aasawa. Hindi na sila mamamatay sapagkat matutulad sila  sa mga angel.

(Imagine life without the need to marry…imagine life without another-in-law. That will surely be heaven!)

Subalit ito’y ibibigay sa mga karapapt-dapat lamang. Sapagkat ang ating Diyos ay ‘di Diyos ng  mga patay kundi ng mga buhay at dahil sa Kanya’y buhay ang lahat…kinakailangan din tayong magkaroon ng buhay at maging buhay.

Kung gayo’y hindi lamang kamatayan ang pinahahandaan. Maraming mga tao na kapag tinanong mo tungkol sa kamatayan ay natatakot. Hindi sila handing mamatay. Not because they are afraid to death. But simply because they have not lived enough. They have not lived meaningful lives. They are still struggling with their journeys..thus, the fear of the destination.

But an ideal destination like the resurrection of the dead should not cause us to fear but should actually inspire us to go on living. Maganda ang buhay. Pinapapangit lamang ng mga taong nag-aaksaya ng kanilang panahon sa mga walang kapararakang bagay. The road may be long and winding; sometimes, we even stop awhile to catch for some breath and reflect. But no matter how strenuous the journey may be,the thought of a rewarding final destination makes us move on eagerly.

The song “Sino Ako?” leads us to reflect further. (The priest or the choir may sing the song) Ironically,this piece of music has been perennially associated with   funeral masses. Yet, it doesn’t speak of death but of life. It challenges us to ask ourselves if we are living well and we have lived enough.
